Working Out and Eating

The balancing of working out and eating is not always easy to achieve. Maximizing the benefits of each aspect is attainable, but may take some experimenting. The main question that people struggle with is when the best time to eat is. There are many mixed opinions out there. People who work out first thing in the morning deal with the hunger issue from not having eaten all night. Some have a hard time exercising on an empty stomach; they feel lethargic and uncomfortable. Others have a hard time exercising with food in their stomach; they get cramps and feel weighted down. It has been suggested to simply experiment and see what works best for your body. Start out eating a small amount of easily digestible food, such as fruit, cereal, yogurt, or bread. Continue to adjust the amounts and the types of food until you find the right combination that works for you. If you do have something to eat, it is good to wait between fifteen minutes and a half hour before starting your workout.

If you work out mid-day or evening, you may need to experiment a little as well. Whether you eat food that you can burn while you are working out or whether you eat food after you have worked out to replenish the calories you burned is another point of mixed opinions. Again, it all boils down to what works best for you and your body.

Making healthful choices in the foods you consume will also help maximize the results of working out and eating. So, you may need to do some experimenting as to what, when, and how much you eat, but once you have found what works well for you, you will see the difference in your overall health and workout performance.
