Migraine Relief

Migraine

Migraines plague the population of 28 million American people on a regular basis.  Some are affected more than others.  Some things that trigger migraines are emotional stress, caffeine, changing weather conditions, excessive fatigue, changes in sleep patterns, changes in food
schedules, and sensitivity to certain food preservatives and chemicals. According to some studies some foods that may activate migraines are many different cheeses, pickles, onions, olives, certain processed meats, beans, raisins, and nuts.

Of course, with so many causes to watch for, numerous doctors suggest keeping a log of everything you do 24 hours before a migraine starts.  Once you find the reason for the migraines, simply changing your diet or behavior will prevent them from reoccurring.  If you cannot discover the source, then there are many medications to help you manage your migraines.

Some abortive remedies are medications that are specifically used for migraine headache relief.  These prescriptions contain triptan, which affects serotonin in the brain. Triptan is in Imitrex, Zomig, Replax, Amerg, Maxalt, Frova, and Axert.  In case these don’t work, there is another set of medicines that may work.  These drugs affect more chemicals in the brain than just serotonin.  These medications are Migrin, Cafergot, Phenergin, and Compazine.

There are also preventative actions we can take towards migraines.  These are only suggested when migraines occur more than four times a month.  They are high blood pressure medicines, antidepressants, antiseizure medicines, and certain anti-allergy medicines.  Migraines can disrupt your entire day, but thankfully there are countless treatments that can help us to get back on track.
