Aromatherapy

Aromatherapy

Aromatherapy is therapy that uses volatile plant oils, especially essential oils, for helping certain physiological and psychological issues. There has not been enough valid study in the medical field to have any conclusive statistics about aromatherapy’s efficiency. However, many of those who have tried it have found it to be very effective. Some of the areas that people use aromatherapy for are some respiratory ailments, skin disorders, to sharpen concentration, as an insect repellent, to help stimulate circulation, ease muscle aches and pains, as an antiseptic cream, ease headaches and migraines, as an aphrodisiac, lessen joint inflammation, help influenza symptoms, and is even used in dentistry.

There are various methods used for aromatherapy. Inhalation therapy via steam inhalation, handkerchiefs, nebulising diffusers, candles, and water spritzers, are used mainly for respiratory ailments, headaches, migraines, and psychological issues. For help with skin, muscle, and joint issues, massage ointments, compresses, salves, creams, gels, and various kinds of baths are used.

The essential oils that are used in aromatherapy can potentially be very dangerous if used improperly due to the very high concentration of oils. Be extremely careful to follow the instructions, and also to keep it safely out of the reach of children. There are many products out there that use the word aromatherapy, but not all are natural. Reading the ingredient list is advisable. Stay away from products that say “perfume” or “fragrance.” If the product does not have a list of ingredients, you can contact the manufacturer and find out for sure. As with most new changes in trying to improve your health, you should start out slowly and cautiously and with wisdom.
