Garlic at its Best

BruschettaGarlic is recognized for its healing power, has been around for 5000 years and when eaten regularly provides many health benefits. It helps to decrease the risk of skin tumors and cancers by preventing the growth of carcinogenic compounds, which protect against colon, esophageal and stomach cancer. It is also one of the best remedies for high blood pressure and is known to reduce pressure and tension on the arteries. Garlic is also used to remove toxins from the body and has been used to treat many types of digestive disorders and it helps to eliminate damaging bacteria in the digestive tract.

Derived from the Allium vegetable, garlic is closely related to chives, onions and leeks. It can be eaten raw, but be mindful that it may cause diarrhea, bloating, gas and a fever, so take caution to pace yourself until you know how it is going to effect you. Cooked garlic is best and can be found in many recipes, making it easier to fit it into your diet. It can be added to salads, soups, breads or spice up some of your favorite recipes by experimenting. If garlic is really not for you, it can also be taken in pill form as a supplement.

Here is a great recipe for Brusetta that I really enjoy! This is a simple and wonderful recipe that goes great with any Italian meal. It is also a wonderful way to enjoy the great flavor of garlic.
