This is a great time to start the New Year off right by entertaining family and friends. It’s been a few weeks since Christmas and it’s time to get back to normal life and get reconnected with everyone. Entertaining doesn’t have to be a formal setting or extravaganza. Keep it simple and choose a style, such as sit-down dinners, buffets or kitchen parties. If you are not the best at cooking, then try having a wine tasting party instead. It’s very simple to do and with some wine glasses and 2 or 3 hors d’oeuvres, you have a party. Get creative and have brunch on the lawn or an old fashioned Sunday dinner at 4 p.m.
To keep things simple, choose your menu with recipes that you have made before, which let’s you focus on other areas of the party, such as tabletops, flowers and conversation. Limit hors d’oeuvres to no more than three kinds or your guests may not be hungry for the main course. Depending on the style of your party will determine how you are going to present your dishes. They can be plated in the kitchen and taken to the table or you may decide on family style, where platters of food are placed on the table.
Another way to keep things simple is to make chili for game day gatherings or a soup buffet for a bridal shower. When it comes to desert, you will want to have two choices. It doesn’t always have to be homemade and you can pick up some great deserts at your local grocery store and garnish them with fresh fruit or herbs. If you start planning your party 1-week in advance, you will be much more organized and things should go smoothly.
