Gardening For Family Fitness

Gardening

Gardening is a great way to help your family stay fit and enjoy time together. It’s easy for people to get depressed this time of year and planning an upcoming garden can be a fun way to get ready for spring. If you tend to your garden everyday, it will count towards the 30 minutes of moderate physical activity that we should be doing daily. When planning a garden there are many things to consider before you get started.

There are many options out there for gardens and depending on how much time you have to dedicate to it, will determine how it is laid out. Raised garden beds are easier to care for, so if you have any knee or hip problems, this may be the garden for you. The beds should be high enough that you can work on them from a sitting position. The Internet is a great resource for researching the type of garden you are looking for.

The next step to planning a garden is to determine what type of plants or flowers you want to grow. Vegetable gardens are very popular right now because of the economy and high cost of food. This is where you can get the whole family involved and plan what types of favorite vegetables to plant. It’s also a great way to get kids to eat more vegetables, as they are more likely to eat something that they have grown themselves. Not only will your family have lots of fresh vegetables this summer, but also the whole family will be more active and fit.
